"If you go to a Payless (Kroger) store in the Lafayette / West Lafayette I feel that this is the best one. Payless doesn't advertise crime statistics but all the Payless stores in Lafayette have a mobile camera system conspicuously placed in the parking lot. This Payless doesn't, I assume there's a reason for that. I assume like any large retailer Payless (Kroger) has their regular selections that are available in all the local Payless store but then each store is tweaked to the demographics of the neighborhood they serve. West Lafayette is home to Purdue University so there's a large population of foreign instuctors and students. I believe this is the reason this store has a large and well kept fruit and vegetable section, an actual cheese counter that is usually staffed with knowlegable cheese mongers, a larger wine and fresh seafood selections than the other local Payless locations and many more unique items not found in the other stores. Due to the Kroger fuel rewards points I am all in with a Kroger credit card. If you pay attention and shop on 4X fuel points Friday it's surprisingly easy to accumulate enough fuel points for a $1 a gallon fuel discount. My only complaint is I don't like is when they run out of sale items. A couple of weeks ago there was a special on 85/15 ground beef. That felt kind of iffy to start with because the ground beef they usually have is 80/20 and 73/27. Regardless over the course of 3 days I never saw a single package of the special ground beef, just empty shelf space. My other gripe is some of their specials feel like a deal with the devil because the great deal is always in large bold letters while the details are in super fine print. The only reason I'm taking time to do this review is I got a notification that I'm in the top 20% of liquor store reviewers. I don't know whether that's some to be proud of or not but I feel ,"Those are Rookie numbers" and I need to pump those numbers up so I submit this honnest review."
